It’s that time of the year again — the Taste of Chicago has returned to Grant Park!
Held annually, the Taste of Chicago is the premiere culinary event and festival in Chicago. If you’re not familiar with the concept, it’s pretty easy to understand. At the Taste, food vendors assemble pop-up restaurants or tents, allowing any visitor with sufficient tickets a slice of culinary traditions from all over the world. The restaurants cover a wide variety of culinary traditions, whether it be Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Southern food or some world-famous Chicago Pizza. Of course, there are also typical American summer classics like burgers, hot-dogs, corn-dogs, ribs and roasted corn. While the event is heavily focused on food, it also provides live concerts from popular artists, local bands and more.
A recent addition to the program by the City to the Taste is the inclusion of a “Celebrity Chef du Jour” event with celebrity guests. In 2013, this event featured Giuseppe Tentori, Gale Gand and The Hearty Boys, Carrie Nahabedian and Rick Bayless. These Celebrity Chef du Jour events included cooking demonstrations by each of the culinary masters, costing $40 a person. The highlighted chef’s for 2014’s Taste include chefs Art Smith, Andrew Zimmerman, Paul Virant, Amanda Rockman, Matthias Merges and Erling Wu-Bower.
Over the years, the Taste of Chicago has become the biggest food festival on the planet, drawing in crowds from all over to enjoy what Chicago has to offer. More than 3.5 million people visited the festival in 2005, and the attraction continues to grow. While this is great for the city, the number of visitors has made the search for convenient Taste of Chicago parking harder, but if you book parking for the Taste in advance, you can save time and money.
This year, ParkWhiz has partnered with Millennium Garages to provide the best possible parking experience, so that not only can you book Taste of Chicago parking before you visit the festival, you also won’t have to waddle very far on a full stomach, as a portion of the garage complex is underneath Grant Park.
