The Color Run- Happiest 5k on the Planet
Tamagotchi, Miley Cyrus, planking, Cinnamon challenge. What do these all have in common? They’re fads that have swept America at some point in the last few years. They inspire youtube video imitations and late night talk gags, and then a few months later __ kaput! They disappear from the American psyche. But here’s one that just might stick, The Color Run.
Take a walk outside any Saturday and Sunday you’ll see people of all shapes and colors participating in some sort of walk or run to celebrate something. With obesity still on the rise, these types of events are a great way to get off the couch and get some exercise instead. It’s a chance to meet up with friends and make new ones, and raise money for a worthy cause.
A good distance to start, especially for beginners, is the 5K (or 5 kilometers; which is 3.1 miles). And a great place to begin is “The Color Run,” which promotes itself as the ‘Happiest 5k on the Planet’, that celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality’.
Participants are encouraged to walk and/or run while being doused from head to toe with paint along the way. With over 100 upcoming events in countless cities, this 5k is a healthy, wacky fad we can all get behind. As The Color Run itself notes: over 60% of its participants are first time 5k runners.
Since Lance Armstrong’s debacle, walks have become the new way to support and bring awareness to a cause, instead of wearing a bracelet (full disclosure: I took part in Aids Run & Walk 2013). The Color run prides itself on partnering up with local charities depending on where the race is taking place.
Color Run Parking
Now for something even easier: With thousands of participants per event, the last worry you need is finding parking. ParkWhiz.com is the number one marketplace to book your guaranteed parking spot. Whatever your needs are, ParkWhiz provides the comfort of knowing it’s there upon entry. For participants of the Color Run taking place in Baltimore on November 17, you can purchase and book your parking directly from the site itself. The only thing you will need to remember is your ParkWhiz parking pass _ and some towels to cover the seats in your car!
