Chicago knows how to celebrate the holidays. This time of year is perfect for connecting with loved ones, and the city offers an array of events and activities that spark joy. Even the streets twinkle. But with the weather being warmer than usual, maybe you’ve found it difficult to find your holiday spirit (or even convinced yourself that winter won’t arrive). Don’t worry! We’ve compiled a list of this week’s top holiday events that will surely kick start your season. So find some good company and treat yourself this week!
- Home Alone – Film with Live Orchestra (12/11-12/13) – Enjoy this classic holiday film with a charming twist. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will be performing John Williams’ score during a showing of the film at the Chicago Symphony Center. As an added bonus, all kids 12 and under will receive complimentary gelato. Never seen it? It’s never too late!
- Big Bus “Holiday Express Tour” (12/7-1/2) – Can’t decide on just one of Chicago’s many holiday attractions? This Big-Bus tour allows you to jump on and off at 8 stops, including Christkindlmarket, Maggie Daley Park, and Navy Pier.
- Holidays of Light (12/7-1/3) – Join the Museum of Science and Industry for its 74th annual celebration, where you and your family can view the 45-foot grand tree surrounded by more than 50 decorated trees based on the theme “Robot Revolution.” Take a walk through the forest of lights and take delight in the indoor snow that falls every half hour.
- Grilled Cheese Meltdown (12/12) – Okay, so maybe this event isn’t necessarily a holiday event. But who can resist a whole evening of warm, melted cheese? Not us! At the Grilled Cheese Meltdown, guests can nibble on a wide variety of sandwiches provided by some of the city’s best restaurants. Yum.
No matter what your plans end up being this week, we hope you spend some time doing something that brings you joy.
